Coaching
Why Coaching?
Coaching focuses generally well-functioning individuals by assisting them to overcome barriers to changes they want, in order to achieve the specific goals, they set. These life changes do not happen automatically they require focus and concentration to take the steps necessary Not everyone is ready for change when they think about it. Knowing where you are in the process can help you decide how and when to move on.
One model suggests that there are six stages of change:
1. Pre-contemplation
2. Contemplation,
3. Preparation,
4. Action,
5. Maintenance,
6. Termination.
Coaching helps clients explore their own desires, abilities, reasons, and needs for making changes in their lives, and then take action to make and sustain those changes. I work with the skills I have learned over years of coaching clients through challenging parts of their lives, divorce, recovery after the loss of a partner, recovery and the challenges of rehabilitation from surgery, accidents or other physical trauma, getting back self-confidence after job loss, as well as normal transitional periods such as retirement, and refocusing after children have left home.
Each person is unique, and change is an ongoing process.
My approach is person-centered, and strength-based. That means you are in the driver’s seat making your own decisions about what works and fits you. Having partnership with a guide is invaluable in helping you make the changes you want; and the approach is based on your strengths. Those strengths, skills, and resources are the fuel that support and nurtures the change you want. Achieving one change develops a rich set of skills that can help you in other areas of your life.
One change often has the ripple effect that causes welcome changes in other parts of your life.
